Quick one

I only have a few minutes, so this'll have to be really quick. Sorry for those that want a longer post.

Life is going well. I think I'm no longer sick. Today we leave for parts of 2 days in Ramalla. For the last week we've been mostly sitting in our ATG (Alternative Tourism Group) room and listening to lectures on history, politics, culture, religion, etc in the area. The lecturers have all been impressively knowledgable but many have been quite confusing. Then again, I guess this whole region is a bit confusing.

We've also made a few short trips mostly in the Bethlehem region. On Saturday though, we took a day trip to Hebron! We visited the old city and the old market and the Christian Peacemaker Team and the Tomb of the Patriarchs. Amazingly enough, one of the CPTers is from Corning! She has a place next to Rico's on Market street and talked a lot about Soul Full Cup. Because Israel Visas only last 3 months she goes home quite often! Unfortunately I forget her name, but try to look her up.

If someone wants to I'd apprectiate some updates from the US. Maybe a sports update from Darrel. We heard the Giants won, but I don't know how. A Super Bowl commercial update would be cool to! All the news in our house is in Arabic, so a Presidencial campaign update would be cool too.

Alright, time to go.

  1. The Peacekeeper from Corning was Dianne Roe. We've talked with her a number of times.
Superbowl - Darrel can tell you more but there was an amazing play where it looked like Eli Manning was being stopped but came away from the pack and threw a wonderful pass with an amazing catch!
We are having some icy days here. Last week we had two days off school. Today it is raining. The new drapes are up. Burnie and Pipa are still friends. We no longer have a hamster.

  2. Sports updates- Giants won mostly because of their defensive line. Umenyiora, Strahan, and Tuck didn't allow Brady to settle in and get comfortable. The Lakers traded for Pau Gasol and the Suns will probably get Shaq for Marion. Kidd is also demanding a trade.

  3. um, news from here . . .on sunday, cory led singing with me. and we decided not to turn on the piano just to hit a starting note, and ended up singing like a third lower, which i thought was pretty funny.

i can read about 80 words in hebrew now, and i've decided to work at pyc this summer, and i finished knitting a pair of gloves last night. today was camp day, so darrel and i and other people with camp shirts on sang a couple songs around the "campfire" on stage in chapel. yup yup.

and since you asked, there were some good commercials during the super bowl (that was the part i mostly watched), but i rather think they lose something in the retelling. there was one where a clydsdale wasn't picked to pull the beer sleigh, so the dalmation trained him and then he was amazing. there was one where a car almost hit a squirrel in the road and it showed all the animals around screaming, one by one. and there were a couple with a baby talking with a man's voice about stocks, and in one he rents a clown and says something like "i underestimated the creepiness factor." all of which would be funnier if you saw them.

and now i think my comments are as long as your post! oh yeah.

  4. Hello Daniel--so politics--McCain won most of the states, however Huckabee did pretty decent himself. Obama won the most states for the Dems. but Hillary has the most delegates--this is just from Super Tuesday. BBC News has a great website--Aaron and I go their regularly for our news, and they have a lot on the campaign.
Indeed the Superbowl was great, a very impressive game, I was glad that the Giants won and the commercial w/ the squirrel screaming--for Bridgestone Tires-- was by far my favorite--I am sure that there are highlights out on youtube or something.

Have a blessed day and thanks for posting updates on your blog!

  6. Glad to hear you're feeling healthier. Bless you as you balance rest and exploration, sleep and journal writing, etc.

Just read something in the last PYC Campfire Notes: it's a quote from Ben Havens, age 9: "I'm glad there's a place like Penn-York Camp. My counselor was fun [Daniel Miller] and my favorite experience was when we used the foam rocket launchers."

As far as the presidential campaign, Hillary's lead is not major over Obama -- both have about a 1000 delegates (need a bit over 2000 to win the Democratic nod). And Romney today suspended his campaign, ceding that McCain can't be beaten for the Republican nod.
